Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply civil construction design skills and knowledge to support projects under limited supervision. They may prepare drawings, interpret engineering plans, and assist with design coordination. Potential job roles include Civil Engineering Draftsperson, Civil Construction Technician, or Project Support Officer. Responsibilities vary by organisation size, with broader roles in smaller companies and more specialised tasks in larger teams.

Our Diploma of Civil Construction Design is a nationally recognised VET qualification.

Course Duration

• 64 weeks (including term breaks)
• 8 terms

This course consists of 20 units of competency (elective units) delivered across a period of 64 weeks (including 6 weeks of term breaks).

Course Entry Requirements

1. English Proficiency Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following tests:
   • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band score below 5.5.
   • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): Minimum overall score of 50, with at least 42 in each of the four skills.
   • Any other English proficiency test deemed equivalent by Opulence College.
2. Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
3. Academic Requirements: Applicants must have successfully completed Australian Year 12 or its equivalent.

Note: Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission, as additional factors may be considered during the selection process.

Assessments

This course will be delivered and assessed through verbal assessment, group discussion, consultation, prescribed textbook reading and online written assessment activities.

Course Outcomes

Students will attain the Diploma of Civil Construction Design once all units have been completed at a competent level.

Graduates of our Diploma of Civil Construction Design course course will develop essential technical skills and foundational knowledge to contribute effectively to the planning, design, and documentation processes within civil construction projects. This qualification prepares students to assist in delivering design solutions, interpreting engineering drawings, and supporting project coordination—building a strong platform for future leadership roles in the industry or further study at the advanced diploma level. These could include:

• Civil Engineering Draftsperson
• Civil Construction Technician
• Project Support Officer

Unit of Competency
