Course Description

The CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) at Opulence College provides advanced skills and knowledge for managing residential and commercial building and construction projects.

Graduates may work in roles such as Builders, General Forepersons and Building Inspectors, undertaking tasks such as managing construction work, supervising contractors and onsite activities, administering contracts, monitoring project costs, applying building codes and standards, and managing quality, risk, environmental and financial requirements.

The qualification is classified at AQF Level 5 and is designed for students seeking to advance their career in the building and construction industry. Licensing and regulatory requirements for building and construction work may vary between Australian states and territories.

Course Duration

54 weeks, including:

• 50 weeks of study
• 4 weeks of holiday breaks

This course consists of 27 units of competency (with 24 core units and 3 elective units).

Course Entry Requirements

All international students are required to complete a Pre-Training Review and LLND assessment to identify their individual training and support needs.

1. English Proficiency Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English through one of the following tests:
   • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band score below 6.0.
   • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): Minimum overall score of 47 (with 47 for listening / 48 for reading / 51 for writing / 54 for speaking).
   • Any other English proficiency test deemed equivalent by Opulence College.
   • Alternative evidence of English proficiency may also be accepted (please contact our Admission team for more details)
2. Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.
3. Academic Requirements: Applicants must have successfully completed Australian Year 12 or its equivalent; OR successfully completed Certificate III or above in construction.

Note: Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission, as additional factors may be considered during the selection process.

Course Outcomes

Students will attain the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) once all units have been completed at a competent level.

The qualification prepares students to manage construction work, administer contracts, monitor project costs, select and manage contractors, supervise onsite activities, apply structural principles and building regulations, and manage quality, risk, environmental and financial requirements.
